For the last decade, I’ve helped teams ranging from small agencies to start-ups to international corporations fine tune their digital products to create meaningful change.
My Design Process
-
UX Research & Behavior Mapping
Before starting any project, it’s crucial that I understand both the needs of the user and how that ties back to the overall business objectives. During this stage, I’m often spending time crawling data sources (qualitative and quantitative) to ensure a concrete understanding of the problem. From there, I begin behavioral mapping where I outline the jobs to be done by the user.

-
Rapid Ideation & Prototyping
This iterative process allows me to create low-fidelity prototypes to quickly validate the overall direction a solution may take. During this phase, I’ll work with external and internal stakeholders to get feedback and test the proposed functionality. After feedback sessions are complete, I begin the process of synthesizing the feedback and applying it to my initial prototypes. If a second round of feedback is required, I’ll repeat this process.

-
UI Design & User Testing
Once I validate the direction using low-fidelity mocks, it’s time to transition into higher-fidelity design. During this process I’ll work with any existing UI library to ensure consistency. At this stage, I’ll create deeper prototypes and begin user testing (observations) to understand if the feature I’ve designed solves the problem in a way that’s delightful and engaging for the user.

FAQ
What do I love about UI/UX Design?
Reducing friction points for users. We all have that one app that we hate using because of bad UX, so why not fix it? I love taking complicated problems and developing simple, effective solutions that bring delight to the user.
Do I write code?
Hell yes, I do! In some roles, I’ve been fortunate enough to see my designs through the entire process— all the way from research to final production deployment. The languages I most commonly use are ember, react, HTML, and CSS.
What skills do I use most in my work life?
Empathy and crystal clear communication. To be empathetic means you have the ability to listen and live in another person’s shoes— to fully immerse yourself into their perspective. It’s a skill that helps me be a better designer and teammate because I can anticipate needs and provide extensive documentation to help anyone find the information they need when they need it most.
What books have I found interesting lately?
A while back, I read the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. This self-help book is geared towards making change in your life and understanding the feedback loops that naturally drive our behavior and internal decision-making process. While I don’t agree with every method in his book, I’ve implemented a few of the strategies into my daily life and I’ve noticed substantial improvements— which is pretty rad, man.
